Describe your best lumber and building materials vendor.
Our best lumber and materials vendor is an integral part of our team. They understand our mission and core principles, communicate effectively with our project managers, have reliable service, quality materials, fair prices, and treat us like they really care about our business.
When was the last time you changed vendors and why?
We changed vendors about nine years ago when we were no longer treated like a preferred customer. Our business no longer seemed important to this vendor and it showed in the service we were receiving. We are in a service-based business, even though we’re discussing products and materials.
When and why would you accept a meeting from a new supplier/vendor?
Timing is everything. Our company is relationship-based and all about people and relationships. We are very dedicated to these relationships and only seek new vendors on rare occasions. When we do seek new vendors, it usually has to do with new products or services that are being offered.
What do you wish lumber and building materials suppliers understood about your business?
I wish LBM suppliers understood what we represented, who our clients are, and what is expected. If more people listened to their clients’ needs, then the business relationships would grow stronger.
What products (if any) do you buy installed?
We purchase installed shower glass, roofing, concrete, drywall, countertops, insulation, and paint.
What is the number one problem that keeps you up at night?
Very few things currently keep me up at night. If I had to pick something it would be keeping rain out of remodeled houses when the roof is open to the elements. Our entire team is on call in the rare event a tarp fails.
What do you see as your biggest opportunity?
Our biggest opportunity is being prepared with ample resources to grow the company during cycles of economic prosperity.
