Knoxville-based Tindell’s Building Materials is celebrating 125 years of service, the Knoxville News Sentinel reports.
Chairman Carl Tindell told the News Sentinel that the company claims it is 125 years old, but chances are its history goes back even farther. The earliest payroll record the Tindell can find is dated 1892, so that is the year they go with.
According to the company’s website, Tindell’s started in 1907 in East Tennessee when Fate Tindell (Carl Tindell’s grandfather) produced lumber from a steam-powered sawmill. The company has been in the Tindell family since and now has five locations.
A member of the LBM Century Club, Tindell’s is now owned by Carl Tindell. His son-in-law, Johan van Tilburg, is company president.
