LBM Advantage dealers gather for annual Forest Products Conference

October 26, 2017 LBM Journal

Baltimore — LBM Advantage dealers from around the country met in Baltimore Oct. 22-24 to discuss forest products issues and learn about LBM Advantage’s newly expanded capabilities resulting from its IBSA merger that occurred just three weeks prior.

The addition of another 225 Southeastern locations to the cooperative has created increased demand more regional distribution capability, according to a press release announcing the Conference.

“We carry a lot of clout with the manufacturers these days,” Duncan Facey, Vice President, Forest Products stated in the release. “The addition of the IBSA membership creates more geography and even bigger numbers that the mills are eager to compete for.”

The message was supported by Mark Porter, President of Seattle-based Hampton Lumber Company, a longtime supplier and featured guest speaker at the event. “LBM Advantage is a force to be reckoned with and has moved even further up the ranks as one of our very top customers.”

Porter addressed the crowd on topics of national fiber demand, environmental issues, and the high market prices that were the top story of 2017. “These prices just might be the new normal” continued Porter, citing export demand in an economy that has not yet realized the anticipated 1.4+ million housing starts.

The conference featured other learning opportunities through specialty committee meetings such as a Douglas Fir Users Group and presentations on utilizing the futures market as a risk aversion strategy.

LBM Advantage will continue its dealer education series at their upcoming Annual Meeting and Trade Show in Orlando, Fla. on Feb. 19-21, 2018.
