New Home Building Stores is a five-generation, family-owned lumber, millwork, and building material supplier founded in 1939. Ann Marie Chilcutt, the co-owner, manages stores in Columbus and Macon, Mississippi. She grew up in the business and is now successfully growing its operations, including modernizing the purchase-to-payment process.
Streamlining the AR Function
“For 20 years, my dad managed collections, and I saw how he would bring the stress home with him at the end of the day,” said Ann Marie.
Now, New Home uses BlueTarp to manage its billing, collections, customer service, and credit decisions. Within three months of partnering with BlueTarp, New Home was able to reduce their AR staff and expand their sales and marketing functions with a focus on growing their business.
“With BlueTarp’s ability to service our customers, collect effectively and make the best decisions about credit, we could stop being the bank. The simplification of our back-office operations has been tremendous and allows us to be true owners, not collectors,” she added.

Providing More Customer Value
With BlueTarp, New Home can provide its customers with online account management tools where they can view account balances and available credit, download statements and invoices, request additional credit, and make payments. “Our contractors love the online portal and how they can make payments and manage their jobs,” said Ann Marie.
“They also love BlueTarp’s customer service and the ability to call and pay over the phone,” she added. “They appreciate the extra convenience.” By giving customers the tools to self-serve and having BlueTarp manage collections and credit, Ann Marie and her team can focus on higher-value sales initiatives instead of administrative tasks.
New Home also offers rewards points for customers’ purchases on the BlueTarp program. “My customers love the rewards. They think it’s the greatest. And it allows us to be competitive and create loyalty.”
